The Department of Earth Science provides opportunities for teachers and their students as well as other groups to visit our facilities in Latham Latham HallHall. Although most groups visiting the Department are Junior High or High School classes, we can accommodate any age group, from ages 6 to 60 (and beyond)! Visits can last from an hour to two hours and can be targeted for a specific age group and/or interests.

Latham Hall contains a variety of Earth Science displays and features:

  • Geology - rocks, minerals, fossils, Iowa geological resources, Ice Age Iowa, geodes

  • Meteorology - real time weather, weather equipment

  • Astronomy - visit the observatory, visit the planetarium, meteorites, interactive displays

Our faculty are also available to identify rocks and fossils, and can answer questions about various aspects of the Earth Sciences including educational and career opportunities.
